Have you ever just met someone and suddenly made an unlikely connection? Was the event like a thread that led to more? Perhaps it was necessary to meet a particular person that helped with a new career, an idea, or a future relationship that would change your course in life. Maybe it started out as casual conversation with a stranger or you just happened to ” bump” into someone you haven’t seen for a while.
The real question is ; was it luck, serendipity, blind chance, or really divine intervention? What are the approximate mathematical probabilities of the event occurring? What if you could roughly calculate the odds of the unlikely common connection between you and the other person?
For example, I may have just met a new person and started a casual conversation. Quickly, we both find out that we have gone to the same high school or college, know some of the same people, or have been to the same places. Maybe they lived in the same town, or where born in the same place or hospital. How could you put numbers to this and approximate the odds of divine intervention? According to the United States Geological Survey there are about thirty five thousand cities and towns in the United States. So the chances of you both living in the same town or knowing someone from there are already 35,000 to 1, especially if it’s halfway across the country! According to the Digest of Education Statistics, 2001, table 89, there are 26,407 public secondary schools and 10,693 private high schools. That would be 37,100 to one odds you are from the same high school!
What about the timing? You both met and talked about this at the same hour. There are infinite ways we could calculate this. For sake of argument we will keep it simple. 24 hours in a day for you, and 24 hours in the day for your new acquaintance. The rough odds would be (24 x 24=576 ), or 576 to one chance you met and talked about it in the same hour. So it would follow that meeting someone new and talking in the same hour about a town you both were born in for example would have odds of over 20,160,000 to one (24 x 24 x 35,000)!
How could this be luck? What reasonable person would call this mere coincidence? I believe it is a sign of divine intervention. I believe it is God creating a connection for you for some greater purpose! It could be to prosper your career, find your true love, or lead you to new Godly friends. Two things should be evidently obvious. You can approximate Divine Providence in your life. Secondly, God is real and at work guiding you, promoting you, and making miraculous connections!
Thankyou for the opportunity to share some observations.
